Men and women who’ve had a stroke and their family suggest the following:

  • Keep a folding chair that you keep in the bathroom. In the kitchen use a chair with casters, or a wheelchair. A lightweight tray table on wheels saves trips going back and forth from the kitchen to the table.
  • Every doctor’s office has different schedule. Plan your appointments by asking the receptionist the time with the least amount of waiting time. Try to avoid rush-hour traffic, if possible.
  • College students – especially nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy can be good helpers in continuing therapy at home. Students can also do chores. Sometimes it may be easier to hire someone for one day a week to shop and run errands. Find about students  looking for work at the college employment offices. Always ask and check references when hiring anyone.
